Walk, Swim, Be - the Nordic Way

Full body and mind workouts that are safe, gentle and suitable for everyone

Experienced Professional

All sessions are run by a fully qualified UK Nordic Walking Instructor and experienced open water swimming tutor.

Unique Approach

The teaching methods are designed specifically for the way adults learn, helping overcome barriers and building confidence, (especially in the water).

Private or Small Groups

Some people learn best on their own; others prefer learning in groups. At NordicFitGB you can choose the environment that works best for you.

Short & Focused Lessons

Every lesson is 1 hour long, for optimal effectiveness. You can participate in as many or few sessions per week as you want.

Covid Safe Measures

Keeping healthy and exercise is a vital part of the fight against Covid 19. As a 'Covid Secure' business delivering exercise I have carried out a risk assessment and put in place the following measures to keep everyone safe:
  • Participants must register and compete a health screening which includes Covid 19 questions every time you book/attend a session
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment and where equipment is provided it is thoroughly sanitised before and afterwards using 70% and above alcohol gel and straps are washed at high temperature with equipment then quarantined for 72 hrs.
  • All sessions take place on either a 1-2-1 basis or in small 'bubbles' of 6 so I can work with NHS Track and Trace to immediately identify who has been in contact with someone who may subsequently show symptoms.
  • When participating we will remain 2 metres apart and I will prompt participants about 'droplet spread' where needed.
  • Finally, I realise that not everyone is comfortable heading out in groups at present and so I am planning online NordicFit Wellbeing sessions starting for early October 2020.

About Me

Hi, I'm Jane and a lifetime of extreme sports has left my body broken and battered (and on first names terms with several surgeons).  However I refused to give up wanting to live a normal active life. Instead of thinking about what I couldn’t do anymore I looked to what I could do. I’m not kidding when I say Nordic Walking and Open Water Swimming gave me my life back. To feel your body move freely, swiftly and flexibly again is amazing.

Nordic Walking, Wellbeing and Sea Dips are also really sociable activities done in the great outdoors and so are good for your mind too!

Come and join me for 1-1 tuition, guided walks or group dips - I may even share my little black book of surgeons with you and there’s also an all-inclusive cuppa with a slice of cake on offer at the end.  Life is for living!

WALK
Although it doesn’t look strenuous, Nordic Walking gives you a total body workout. After undertaking the initial Learn to Nordic Walk Programme (4x sessions) you'll  be able to enrol in different types of classes with me and others around the UK linked to your interests.  You'll build strength and cardiovascular conditioning in a safe and gentle way, and soon find those days to day tasks that you once found an effort so much easier.

WELLBEING
Suitable for all levels of fitness and abilities, with exercises tailored to the individuals' needs these sessions include exercises that help with flexibility, balance and strength whilst using poles to improve general fitness and increase joint mobility.  (No NWUK Passport needed).

WORKOUT WALKS
For those who have completed the Learn to Nordic walk course - these fast paced action packed one hour sessions are designed to help you to improve your fitness levels and gain FAST results. Combining motivating drills and exercises into a challenging but fun session.

SEA DIPS
I have given many people the confidence and ability to enjoy being in the water again whether it be for a family holiday or just to splash about with the kids in the pool.  Most adults learnt to swim but many stop and then lose their confidence which is why I offer a tried and tested yet, totally different approach to standard swimming lessons. We start with helping you feel safe in the water and only take the next step when you are ready, taking things at your speed.

BE
Many cultures have a sense of what  the Nordics call Hygge which in English often translates to cosiness but it goes beyond that. It's also a sense of wellbeing, happiness and contentment.  All of which are known to be triggered by being in the great outdoors and having a connection to others. So after every session all-inclusive tea and cake is offered to complete that Hygge feeling!

ADDED EXTRAS
Once you've completed your initial Learn to Nordic Walk Programme you'll receive your UKNW Passport which gives you up to 15% discount on your spend with many retailers such as Cotswold Outdoors, and selected Cruise Lines and Holidays.

STILL NOT SURE?
If you're still not sure if any of this is for you then come along for a free 45 minutes taster session.  Drop me line quoting 'Free Taster' in the subject.

What to Wear

Nordic Walking and Nordic Wellbeing classes are held in the great outdoors so always come prepared for the great British weather (gloves and waterproofs in winter, sunscreen in summer). Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in easily.  The most important thing is footwear. Ideally, walking shoes (not boots) are the best but a pair of tennis shoes or trainers with a good grip are also suitable.

For sea dips, you'll need a swimsuit for summer and autumn and ideally an open water wetsuit for winter and spring use when the water temperature is a little on the chilly side.  You'll also need a brightly coloured swim hat so that you can be seen. When you get out you'll find that a fleecy robe and a large plastic bag (like an Ikea bag) to stand in and undress into is useful.

Lastly, for all activities don't forget to bring a water bottle,  even in winter.
